Wine Description:

The legendary Chianti Classico designation, signified by the famous Gallo Nero (Black Rooster) logo, is reserved for wines produced in the most ancient region of Chianti. Made from select vineyards, it is produced with Sangiovese grapes, which are harvested by hand; then Chianti Classico must be aged for 12 months.

Doge is characterized by an intense ruby red color. The nose opens with elegant hints of violet, then enriched with nuances of ripe red fruit, licorice and vanilla. On the palate, it is full and harmonious, with soft and velvety tannins. Whether tasted immediately or after 5 years, this wine perfectly accompanies cheeses, pastas with traditional sauces, and grilled meats.

Wine Cellar:

Tenuta Torciano Winery is located in the heart of Tuscany, 35 minutes from Florence and 20 minutes from Siena. It is surrounded by beautiful hills and a succession of unique vegetation which features towering cypresses, long stretches of beautiful vineyards, olive groves, oak woods and enchanting villages.

When you visit Tenuta Torciano Winery, you will be totally immersed in Italian culture, and welcomed by a Tuscan family that has been making wine for over 300 years. Here you will experience warm hospitality and Tuscan traditions that have been handed down for 13 generations.

Area of Production:

The very first classico area here was marked out in 1716 by Grand Duke Cosimo III de Medici, and enlarged significantly in 1932. This area became legally recognized in 1966 when Italy began formalizing its wine laws and DOC system. In 1984, Chianti Classico was promoted from DOC to DOCG status.

The modern-day Chianti Classico viticultural area now covers almost all land between Siena and Florence. It is buffered at each end by the Colli Fiorentini and Colli Senesi production zones.

Grapes:

Chianti Classico wines must contain a minimum of 80 percent of the Sangiovese variety. The remainder can be made from native grapes such as Canaiolo or Colorino, plus international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Wines made only from Sangiovese have been permitted since 1996. The use of white grape varieties such as Malvasia and Trebbiano was prohibited 10 years later.
